Objective(s): Goal 2 The learner will evaluate the effects of early contacts between various European nations and Native Americans. 2.2 Describe the influence of trading contacts on relations between the Native Americans and Europeans in North American.

Outline/Procedure/Closure/Assessment: Use the same introduction from the advanced lesson. Then teach and discuss new trade routes and Christopher Columbus in text (pages 47-59 in America’s Past and Promise. On Thursday, Oct. 12, Students are required to turn in a land-out sketch and an outline of the written material.

THE WORLD IN 1492 POSTER MINI-PROJECT

 

  1. Students are to choose a partner to for this project
  2. Students must choose an area or a present-day country to do research on what was happening in that area or country in 1492 (1400-1550). Suggestions: The Middle East, West Africa, North Africa, East Africa, Mexico, Peru, Great Britain, France, China, India, Russia, Spain, Italy. Students may choose other countries or areas not listed with teacher approval.
  3. Students will create a poster comparing life in 1492 of that particular country or area with life in 2000. Students need to concentrate in the area of Homo Faber---i.e. inventions, economy, clothing, modes of transportation, religion etc.
  4. Students must use a minimum of 3 sources
  5. Due Date: Tuesday, October 17, 2000

ALL PROJECTS WILL BE DISPLAYED AT THE AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS ARTS INTEGRATION NIGHT. THE CLASS THEME WILL BE AROUND THE WORLD IN THE 1400S.
