Some recent literary critics believe that Shakespeare's The Tempest can be, in part, read as an allegorical statement on the European conquest of foreign lands. Choose three of the six passages we have studied. Then, in an essay of five paragraphs, address the following question.

• Your essay should have an introduction and a conclusion, as well as three body paragraphs.
• Each of your body paragraphs should discuss one of the selected passages and its allegorical meaning.
• In your essay, try to explain what you believe to be Shakespeare's opinion of European exploration and conquest. Discuss how this opinion is shown through the characters' words.
