The Worlds of the Renaissance: Projects - Patricia Ann Williams Part Four
Each student will then prepare an essay for an individual grade. The essay should emerge from the discussion , providing the students with the opportunity to reflect upon what they have learned about the aspects of civilization which matter most to them. Overall, the essay should reflect the students' own responses to the various utopias and their ideas about which elements would be included in their own concept of an ideal society. Each essay should contain a thesis which asserts the significance of utopian ideas to the student. For instance, one student might privilege the importance of a charismatic and visionary leader such as King Arthur in creating an ideal society; another might focus on the importance of order and reason. The essays should also comment on aspects of utopian or dystopian societies which students do not wish to include in their vision of society.
