KING HENRY VIII OF ENGLAND RULED FROM 1509-1547

(1534) Passed the Act of Supremacy making himself head of the Church of England

*He wrote the Act of Supremacy which set up the church in his country to be headed by the king. Though he did not consider himself a Protestant, his actions opened the way for the Reformation. He deeply wanted a male heir.

3 pts: He was lively and intelligent. He hunted, danced, played tennis- all with great skill.

2 pts: Married his brother's widow who bore him a daughter named Mary.

1 pt: Broke with the Church and created the Act of Supremacy declaring that the English ruler was to head the Church of England.
