- Excerpts from Leonardo Bruni's Panegyric to the City of Florence, and Poggio Bracciolini's On Avarice in The Earthly Republic: Italian Humanists on Government and Society, ed., Benjamin G. Kohl and Ronald G. Witt
- Slides or computer projection of panels of Ambrogio Lorenzetti's Allegory of Good Government, representative depiction of civic ideals as embodied in local WPA murals (post office, town hall, etc.can be found as an Internet source as well). See web addresses below for copies of Allegory and some samples of WPA art.
- Reproduction or enlarged color copy of main panel of Allegory of Good Government for bulletin board
- Construction paper, old magazines, scissors, glue, colored pencils
- Copies of documents such as the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, etc. that contain popular notions of the institutions and goals of American government.
