The Worlds of the Renaissance: Projects - Marlene Clary Goals
The second trimester will focus on utopian visions as imagined by writers in the past and present. We will explore the issues that concern writers and philosophers when they create worlds of the future or of "perfection" and students will create utopias of their own. In addition, they will examine the form, style and language used by the writers studied and attempt to incorporate aspects into their own creations.
- To explore humans' desire to control their world by creating individual places of perfection-utopias--in their imaginations which fulfill their needs and solve the problems of their society as perceived by the writer at the time.
- Why do we need to improve our present lives?
- How do we choose what to improve?
- How do the ideas of one time hold up in successive centuries and/or in other contexts?
